Almost £140 was raised through cake and crafts in the first special event of the year to celebrate 50 years of Beverley Community Lift.

The charity was the latest to stage a coffee morning at St John's Methodist Church in Market Weighton at the weekend, with homemade cakes, handicrafts and a special exhibition telling the story of the last five decades. In a joint venture with Market Weighton-based radio station, Vixen 101, the event saw a leaflet exchange with other community groups and the station also recorded interviews about projects that local societies were involved in.

Beverley Community Lift was set up as a neighbourhood help scheme in 1970, later developing into a transport service and now the charity has five minibuses for shopping trips and excursions, as well as a car scheme to take people to medical and social appointments.
